bob lefsetz continually cracks me up. for example, yesterday’s email about lily allen and her file sharing remarks/opinions:

“If Lily Allen were an American, she’d be committing career suicide.

But she’s not.

And, oh right, she’s never made it here!  Because we just don’t get it.  How a not beautiful enough girl with a thin voice sings material she isn’t completely responsible for and wants to be on the pop chart.  Don’t tell me it’s solely about beauty, Amy Winehouse is not a looker, and she made it here, big time.  But it is about talent.  And we just don’t think Lily has enough.  And playing in the Top Forty world, it’s about image, other things which Ms. Allen doesn’t possess.”

as my co-worker said—ZING!

over the weekend, one of my co-workers had an emergency appendectomy that just happened to coincide with the day he was supposed to move into his new house. we are sending him a plant, because it somehow seems appropriate for both issues. the only problem is deciding what to write on the card. my suggestion was “congratulations! you lost an appendix but gained a house. enjoy the plant!”

(i’m not totally sure, but i think that just got me fired from the gift card committee)

after years of trying to persuade various dentists in several states to remove the permanent retainer attached to my bottom teeth, i am happy to report that victory is mine. (i also learned that the magic words are “it interferes with my ability to properly floss.” turns out that a dentist’s fear of destroying a colleague’s work is surpassed only by their love of flossing)

so this morning, after 14.5 years together, that tiny piece of bonded metal and i parted ways. it took several high powered drills and about 15 minutes but i can now feel the back of my lower teeth. unfortunately, my mouth feels like it belongs to a stranger and my tongue doesn’t quite sit properly in it’s new space, resulting in a slight speech impetiment situation. (hey, i said slight!)

Of course, in addition to pressing and giving away a limited-edition set of Royal City prints, we’re also streaming the album over at MBV.

i’ve listened to this twice already this morning. two reasons for this: a. i really like it and b. it keeps looping.
at this rate, it will be well ingrained into my subconscious by 2pm. (no complaints)

last week i had the distinct pleasure of seeing will oldham perform at the apollo theater (sixth row even, luck indeed). if you know me, you know that i love this man’s music, but have never actually seen him live. (unless you count the time that i randomly saw him in a nashville coffeehouse—on my 25th birthday—but that’s another story for another day).

anyhow, the show was fantastic, his band was amazing and mr. oldham with his eyeliner, painted fingernails and plaid shirt perfomed with a childlike enthusiasm and excitement that i wasn’t expecting but totally loved. it was a lively show and i recommend that you see him on this tour if you have the chance. completely, 100% worth it.

as a child, one of the things that made me most happy was lying in a pile of laundry that had just been taken out of the dryer. this irritated my mother to no end (understandably, since she was trying to fold all of it).

this photo totally reminds me of that, in the best way.
