i listen to the last.fm radio player a lot during work. almost all day actually. i can’t work without music playing. (not to mention that my quality of life drops dramatically when i am music-less). somehow in all of my last.fm listening, my desktop icon has renamed itself “bob.” (so basically it’s the red last.fm circle with the word “bob” underneath). not...

this site could be a major distraction from work, i can already tell. i just want to read EVERYTHING. gotta stay away (at least until the weekend). via geeksugar
i’m not exactly what you would call an adventurous eater. i have a tendency to eat the same things over and over. this is partly due to a wheat intolerance, partly because i’ve just always been a picky eater with a poor appetite. however, i had chutney for the first time in my life this weekend and i really liked it. (it was mango chutney to be exact). so good. i have always stayed...

asher: (holding up a baby's pink and yellow striped shirt) hey, what about this one for gaia?
missy: nah, i don't like that one. it's too preppy
asher: no, no. preppy is awesome. preppy says to all the other little kids "i'm better than you"
thanks a lot, rock band
i hate having a song stuck in my head. i hate it even more when it is a song i don’t really know. so when i woke up in the middle of the night with the killer’s “when you were young” blaring through my head, i was not happy. and even less happy when i woke up this morning and it was still going. not that i really have anything against the killers (i like mr. brightside)...

new catchphrase? →
in keeping with my love of all things daniel day-lewis/pt anderson/there will be blood, this ny magazine article ponders the catchphrase-ness of the “i drink your milkshake” line. p.s. this line will officially lose it’s power when i start hearing teenagers yell it at each other on the subway.
so so cute →
it’s wearing tights!
my cute hippie grandma sent me a card yesterday (she is a big fan of sending me handmade cards. i love it) and enclosed was an article she had ripped from a magazine entitled “self defense for small women” that outlined several quick self-defense moves for petite women. lol. she is the best.
newsweek: friends under the microscope →
omg. this is terrifying. i wonder if there is a way to find out who is keeping tabs on you? friends are no big deal, randoms are a scary thought.
The Top 10 Beards in Modern Music →
jessie, this one’s for you [via listenerd] — kellyreeves hot. (what? i love a man with a beard…like a just stumbled out of the woods/woodstock kinda beard. it’s a minor personality quirk)
ny times: "no country" and "there will be blood"... →
so exciting. this was expected, but i am torn (good thing i don’t have to vote). my guess is that the academy will lean towards “no country” for best picture, but who knows? they are both incredible, i wish they could both win. also, daniel day-lewis HAS to win for best actor. no one can beat that performance.

i still think football is boring...
and it takes forever. seriously, the longest game ever. who knew a clock could count down so slowly?
i haven’t watched football since i was in high school and my dad and brother would take over the TV to watch college football (and let’s be honest, i usually lasted about 5 minutes and would then retreat to my room to read or something). so yesterday, when i was hanging out and...

my name is not jessica, ok?
geez. i have a boy’s name. so what? i realize that it is spelled like the cutesy nickname for jessica, but it’s just jessie. you see, in an attempt to make the name more feminine my parents added the “i” and unfortunately they just made it all the more confusing to people. so confusing in fact that when i meet new people or am put in a new environment one of two things...

political lunch? →
i’m not SUPER political, but i do find election time very interesting. plus, i am currently working on a project that is politically centered, so there is no escaping it right now. this site was recommended and i really like it. the short, daily videos are perfect for my attention span.

BBC news: researchers plunder social networks →
it was only a matter of time…social researchers are using facebook to learn how people form relationships. i guess this is interesting, but i think i would be more interested in a study about social networks and the projection of people’s online personas. that is way more fascinating to me.
if there were a prize for the most random comments left by complete strangers on last.fm…i would definitely be in the running for it. i have no idea why though. completely baffled.

tetrical is harder than it looks... →
i love tetris. i can play it for hours. so naturally, i was curious about tetrical. tetrical is 3D tetris and it is harder than it looks. or maybe it’s just that i am so used to normal tetris that my brain was having trouble with this fancy version. hmm.
you know how you can just get obsessed with one particular song and listen to it over and over and over for days (even weeks) at a time and not get sick of it? yeah, right now that song is “slow show” by the national. i’ve been listening to it on repeat for days.
NY Times: Radiohead finds sales, even after... →
my relationship with my coffee stand man went to a new level this morning. he didn’t ask for my order, he just had it ready for me when i walked up. this is a major accomplishment considering he is not going to be winning a prize for “most friendly guy” anytime soon. i feel very accepted right now. lol.
good background music is hard to find.
it is no secret that i love coffee shops-i love coffee and all things associated with it. this means that i have logged in quite a bit of time in various coffee establishments over the past 6 or 7 years and as a result i have become very aware (read slightly judgemental) of the music they choose to play. don’t laugh. there really is a sort of science to this. if they choose to play something...
