a while ago, jessie mentioned that she would like me to style her, but i sincerely felt that she didn’t need help (especially not mine!). she e-mailed me recently, though, in search of a new pair of boots, and while her budget was substantial, i kept costs low and trends high to create this fun look for fall.

booties have been all over the runway, but they haven’t always been that practical. rather, i found a pair in chocolate suede and tied them into a casual, navy-centric outfit. click the picture.

sara is magic. i love those shoes. the whole thing is perfect. expect to see me in this soon.

newsweek’s cover for the august 11th issue, is a story entitled “the end of the south”

as a displaced southerner i never know how to feel about things of this nature. as anyone who grew up in the deep south can tell you, it’s a complex (oftentimes dysfunctional) relationship that we have to the whole region.

happily though, the story reminded me of the fantastic walker percy self-interview “questions they never asked me.” it’s definitely worth a read if you get a chance.

i saw lou reed’s berlin this weekend and i really enjoyed the film. i’m not even going to try and review it.

if you like lou reed, go and see it. his performance and the narrative footage is a great combo. plus, it’s worth it to see antony and sharon jones doing back up vocals.

because some vicious mosquitos decided that i am awesome (also, i am apparently very very allergic to the brooklyn variety) i am at home today taking benadryl and trying to get rid of what a roommate referred to as “the thom yorke eye” (sadly, it’s a good description).

this book, the arcades project by walter benjamin, was recommended to me this weekend by one of my roommates. i mentally made a note of it since i’m reading three things already (which is crazy, i have to stop doing that).

however, he left the book on the kitchen table yesterday and my curiousity got the best of me. i intended to casually browse through, but before i realized it an hour had passed (thanks mark). fascinating stuff. if you are interested in parisian history, cultural criticism, consumerism, etc. you should give it a try (but be warned, it’s like a thousand pages).
